外刊中的地道写作表达

在本专栏当中，我会从经济学人等英文外刊中精选一些地道的表达和句型进行精讲。本期讲解几个固定结构。1 A is one thing/B is another一回事/另一回事Getting better than the competition is one thing, but staying better for a prolonged period of time is another.变得比竞争者更好是一回事，但长时间保持更好是另一回事。(the competition竞争者；同行)A is one thing/B is another表示A和B是两码事。通常来说，B的难度/重要性要高于A。前后两句可以通过并列连词and/but连接。使用and连接时，前后信息同等重要使用，只是表示两件事不同而已；而使用but时，更强调后者，比如下文要具体讨论后者。其中，another相当于another thing的省略，避免重复。用and进行连接时，还可以将后一句的be动词省略，即：A is one thing and B another。比如：Theory is one thing and practice another.理论是一回事，实践却是另一 ………………………………
