Hello everyone, my name is Jia Lanlan, and I am a faculty member of the Translation and Interpreting Department, School of Foreign Languages at East China Normal University. Recently, China’s homegrown AI Large Language Models, DeepSeek, made its debut. What impact will AI LLMs have on students majoring in foreign languages and translation? On the first day of the new semester, in my English speaking and interpreting class, I had a discussion with my students around these questions. The students believe that Generative AI brings a complex landscape of both challenges and opportunities.
