Conical intersections play a crucial role in photophysics, photochemistry and photobiology. At these multi-dimensional intersection seams, the molecular dynamics is dominated by a complete breakdown of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation as well as by exceptionally strong anharmonic couplings of vibrational modes.
