英国雷丁大学生物科学学院的科学家们列出了23个最古老的已知词语。这些词语是七种原始欧亚语言所共有的，由这七种语言演化而来的语言有上百种，有的至今还存在，有的已经消亡。研究者估计，这些词语已经有15000年历史了。 这些单词包括： thou, I, not, that, we, to give, who, this, what, man/male, ye, old, mother, to hear, hand, fire, to pull, black, to flow, bark, ashes, to spit, worm.
