We collect unique high-frequency data on sales, ex-post quality, and entry/exit for both foreign and domestic sellers on Amazon. The research design leverages exogenous variations in exchange rates, which primarily affect the profitability of foreign products. We find patterns consistent with selective entry, wherein marginal foreign sellers entering when profitability increases are associated with higher quality, while trademark registration mitigates this selection.
