Founded as a startup in 2011 in South Korea, Gentle Monster has rapidly expanded globally, with stores in the United States, Singapore, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates, among others. Gentle Monster in China opened its first store in 2016, and as of December 2024, it has over 20 flagship stores, solidifying its position in the eyewear industry. Gentle Monster is largely known for being delicate and wearable (“Gentle”) and for its attitude and individuality (“Monster”), a duality reflected in its unique shopping experience. Its stores focus more on the experience, reflected through its massive, artistic sculptures and architectural elements, and less on the products themselves.
