the late 1600s the UK began maritime(海运的)trade
with China. The first British Chinese were sailors(水手)who
arrived in London on East
India Company(东印度)ships.
The number of Chinese people living in the UK at this time was
extremely small, and almost all of them lived around the London docks(码头).The

there were a few Chinese people living in the UK from the late 1600s,
it wasn't until the 1800s that small Chinese communities(社区)began
to develop in the UK. At this time the Chinese coming to the UK
continued to all be sailors. A former(以前的)sailor
employed by the East India company named John Anthony (his Chinese
name is not known) became the first ever Chinese person to be naturalised(加入
