Recently, the staff of the Guangdong Haifeng Bird Provincial Nature Reserve Management Office discovered five wild glossy ibises during daily monitoring and patrols. This is the first time this rare bird has been recorded in the nature reserve. The glossy ibis, with most of its feathers in chestnut bronze, is a "close relative" of the rare crested ibis, and its body is slightly smaller. When it spreads its wings under strong sunlight, its feathers showcase different colors, becoming extremely gorgeous. Bird-watching enthusiasts jokingly refer to this as "colorfulness in black," hence the name glossy ibis. Glossy ibises mainly inhabit calm rivers, lakes, and swamps, and sometimes visit rice fields. They feed primarily on aquatic insects, shrimp, and crustaceans.
