Collected DOCDEX Decisions 2004-2008 No.235-278 Foreword ... The DOCDEX system was established in 1997 as a response to a request to ICC from the international banking community to establish a rapid dispute resolution system, which could serve to replace lengthy court procedures in letter of credit disputes. Although DOCDEX Decisions do not have the force of law, they can be used as evidence if the parties later decide to go to court. Moreover, if one party is armed with a DOCDEX Decision, the other party may decide not to go to court at all. The ICC panels of experts who the Decisions are generally provided with considerable documentation, allowing them to give a considered judgement on a set of facts submitted to them by one or both parties to a dispute.
