Susanne Reichardt © Theater und Orchester Heidelberg Heidelberger Stückemarkt is a renowned German theatre festival that focusses on the work of contemporary playwrights, taking place for ten days at the end of April and beginning of May. Its core is the competition of six not yet produced plays by German speaking authors. They are awarded different prizes and a production for the opening of next year’s edition of Heidelberger Stückemarkt. The festival invites the most remarkable premiere productions of contemporary theatre texts to be performed on the stages of Theater Heidelberg. Annually the most prestigious German theatres from all major cities of the German theatre scene gather in Heidelberg to show their latest productions. In addition to the domestic program since 2011 Heidelberger Stückemarkt features an international program from one so called guest-country.
